Koi Fish - Something Different SOLD

Koi Fish- Wet/Needle Felting

I seemed to have taken a non intentional time out from oil painting.
After looking at online tutorials I gave it a whirl....only a few blunders err I mean learning curves...which involves needles and a few poked fingers is not so fun BUT
I love all the different colors of wool, threads and even textured fabrics to create a "textile" painting.

So with this being my first needle felt,  I was very happy when it sold after posting it online.  The best part was that it wasn't advertised as "for sale" yet.  Yay!!

Art Inspiration in NYC

Just a few favorites from
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim & MOMA

I have not posted in a few months.
I lost my mother on St. Patricks Day.
It has been very hard moving forward and
anything to do with my art has been pushed aside.
My mom was a fun loving person who was also very creative in different way's
such as sewing, decorating, crafts  and even  few paintings.
She alway's had a cabinet packed full of artsy stuff for  her grandkids to play with & explore.
She was alway's encouraging me to create since I  can remember.
Thanks mom.  :)

So this past week I took a much needed little trip to NYC and met up with a good friend & artist
who I had not seen in 10 years....way too long!!
Needless to say she is one of those kind of friends where you just pick up where we left off.
Not only was it wonderful to catch up, but she was the perfect person to visit all of the best art museums with.

I could go on about everything we saw and did, but that would take forever.
Just know that little spark is still there and I will be getting messy soon.
(don't worry mom, I will clean up my mess!)

Day 29 "Resting Sunflower II"

"Resting Sunflower II"
7x5 Oil framed $150
Renee Brennan

I previously painted this sunflower
and it had sold a couple years ago.
Unlike all this dreary cold weather, I thought a
colorful flower would be welcome.
I'm ready for Spring!  Aren't  you?

SO now it IS 1 day  left of the 30 Paintings in 30 Day's Challenge.

Day 28 "Little Ceramic Bird"

"Little Ceramic Bird"
5x7 oil
Renee Brennan

Day 28 - This little bird was supposed to be a quick study using
only 4 colors.  Well wouldn't ya know it, there were about 50 colors
in this little guy.  Painting shiny white objects is crazy difficult!
Anyway he is supposed to be a little salt shaker and I had painted
a little hole on top of his head...it looked like another eye
so I rubbed it out...maybe I will try him again tomorrow.
Naaaa probably not.

Day 28 means only 2 more day's of this
by Leslie Saeta.  Thank you in advance Leslie!!

Day 27 - "Pussy Willow's in Tenmoku Tea Bowl"

"Pussy Willow's in Tenmoku Tea Bowl"
6x8 Oil $200 double frame
Renee Brennan

Day 27 of 30 Paintings in 30 Day's Challenge.

Had to skip a couple day's of posting but was actually
working on this piece...so can I count it as Day's 25 & 26?
Ahhh who's counting anyway?

About this set up -  I have had these bunch of pussy willows for
quite awhile wanting to paint them.  Interesting that they don't really
die, and keep shedding the little bud shells.
The Tenmoku Tea Bowl I had painted one like it before in
Abbey Ryan's workshop.  She get's them from her pottery friend
Jury Smith who has a nice online shop called Bottle & Bowl.
They are really beautiful pieces of art!

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Day 21 - "Bottle's and Reflections" a study SOLD

"Bottles and Reflections"  a study
14x11 Acrylic
Renee Brennan

Day 21 - Life got in the way of painting today,
SO today is a throwback painting from about 2 yrs ago.
I remember painting this outside on my deck while it was
very sunny.  Silly me what was I thinking?  Of course you
know that the light/ reflections/ shadows ...everything
changes by the minute...not to mention my own moving
reflection IN the bottles...crazy...but fun!

Only 9 more day's in the 30 paintings in 30 day's Challenge.

Day 20 "Stoneware Beer Bottle, Book and a Pear" SOLD

"Stoneware Beer Bottle, Book and a Pear"
12 x 15 Oil $300 framed
Renee Brennan

Day 20 - Of 30 Paintings in 30 Day's Challenge.

I spent time finishing this piece from November.
The bottle I painted then was off,  so I carved the left
side in to make it more symmetrical.
However when looking at
the actual bottle closer,  I realized it was OK as it was.
These bottles aren't perfectly shaped.
They are imperfect with little ripples, bumps and glaze drip marks.
Wonderful, really.

To read original post on this painting, click on "November" above.
SOLD!

Day 18 "Three Grapes in Sun #2"

"Three Grapes in Sun #2"
6x8 oil $150 framed
Renee Brennan

Day 18 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge by Leslie Saeta.

Not a great pic of this one,
I am having a difficult time with the glare
from the paints.  Really the background is a bit darker in person.
If anyone has some tips for that, it would be much welcome.

This was done alla prima,
which means painting wet on wet and in one sitting.
I did go back the next day to fix a couple teensy spots,
so hope that counts!

Let me know what you think either in comments below
OR on my FB page.

This feather was inspired by my neice Emma, age 12
who drew a beautiful full peacock without looking at a photo.
Not easy to do!
These will be entered into the Sketchbook Project 2014....
I think I know what she will be getting for her next birthday;)

Day's 11, 12 & 13 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

"Looking Up''  11x14
Watercolor pencils

by Leslie Saeta.
I got a little behind again...this one is going into the
Which is due in 2 more day's!  almost done....the 2 below will also go into the sketchbook.

About the painting.  In the Fall, one of my silly things I like to do is go stand under a tree who's leaves are in full color.  When the sunlight shines through, it seems to fill you up with the energy of all that color.  I know silly...but try it sometime you'll see what I mean!

 "Monopoly Booty"
4x6 Watercolor Pencils

Day 12 for 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge.
This is another entry for the Sketchbook Project, which by the way
I chose mine to tour 3 cities in California. Yes the book gets to travel!
I will keep you posted when and where it is.
At the end of the tour it will be permanently on display at the Brooklyn Museum of Art
in the Sketchbook Library.

"Sock Monkey #2''
Watercolor Pencils 4x6

Day 13 - 30 Paintings in 30 Day's Challenge.
Another entry for the Sketchbook Project 2014
This sock monkey looks like he is cheating at  playing peek a boo,
but he is from a group of three I did earlier this year in oil which sold.
Who doesn't love a Sock Monkey?

Day 7 - "The Practice Grape"

"The Practice Grape"
 4x4 oil on Canvas Paper
NFS

I should call this Abbey's Grape.  Why? Because while taking a workshop from Painter Abbey Ryan,
she demonstrated how to get the luminosity of a grape.  SO,  the other day I bought some grapes,
mixed  the same colors she used while remembering her tips .... and within 20 minutes or so -  Voila!
 I thought,  WOW!  it worked!
THEN today,  Day 7 of this 30 Paintings in 30 day's challenge,  I attempted another painting of the grape only on a hard canvas with the intention of making a more detailed version.
Must have worked on it for at least 3 hours and guess what?
I couldn't stop painting, it started getting overworked, muddy and of course the light kept changing.  Grrrr!
In the end I wiped the canvas completely clean.... and so here you go,  my first practice grape.

Day 6 "Pokey and Drawbomb Gumby"

"Pokey and Drawbomb Gumby"
4x6 Watercolor Pencils
Renee Brennan

When I was a kid (still am sometimes)  I used to LOVE watching
the claymation show of Gumby and Pokey.
I found Pokey in a box tucked away in the closet, but no sign
of his friend...so sad, I might have to find him on ebay or something.

Hope you like them!...Please visit my FB page and give it a like...and/ or add your
blog to the Google Friend box on the right side of this post....I like to see your art too!

Day 2 "On Board Blue Mist"

"On Board Blue Mist"  6x8 oil NFS
by Renee Brennan

This painting of the Blue Mist Yacht built
in 1917, used to be a commuter boat into NYC.
On my 50th birthday, my husband rented it for a small party!
We are sailors so  normally when we go out onto
The Chesapeake Bay,  the weather is nice and sunny. Well this
day happened to be rainy, rain, rain rain... which actually
turned out absolutely perfect!

Day 1 "Sock Monkey"

"Sock Monkey"
Watercolor Pencils & Ink 4x6

This is Day 1 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Day Challenge by Leslie Saeta.
This little painting is a redo from a larger canvas one
I did in the Fall which sold.
He will be going into a sketchbook for another project.

One thing for sure is that this girl will get alot
of needed practice this month.
Yay!
