Day 29 "Resting Sunflower II"

"Resting Sunflower II"
7x5 Oil framed $150
Renee Brennan

I previously painted this sunflower
and it had sold a couple years ago.
Unlike all this dreary cold weather, I thought a
colorful flower would be welcome.
I'm ready for Spring!  Aren't  you?

SO now it IS 1 day  left of the 30 Paintings in 30 Day's Challenge.

Day 27 - "Pussy Willow's in Tenmoku Tea Bowl"

"Pussy Willow's in Tenmoku Tea Bowl"
6x8 Oil $200 double frame
Renee Brennan

Day 27 of 30 Paintings in 30 Day's Challenge.

Had to skip a couple day's of posting but was actually
working on this piece...so can I count it as Day's 25 & 26?
Ahhh who's counting anyway?

About this set up -  I have had these bunch of pussy willows for
quite awhile wanting to paint them.  Interesting that they don't really
die, and keep shedding the little bud shells.
The Tenmoku Tea Bowl I had painted one like it before in
Abbey Ryan's workshop.  She get's them from her pottery friend
Jury Smith who has a nice online shop called Bottle & Bowl.
They are really beautiful pieces of art!

Day 18 "Three Grapes in Sun #2"

"Three Grapes in Sun #2"
6x8 oil $150 framed
Renee Brennan

Day 18 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge by Leslie Saeta.

Not a great pic of this one,
I am having a difficult time with the glare
from the paints.  Really the background is a bit darker in person.
If anyone has some tips for that, it would be much welcome.

This was done alla prima,
which means painting wet on wet and in one sitting.
I did go back the next day to fix a couple teensy spots,
so hope that counts!

Let me know what you think either in comments below
OR on my FB page.

On the Easel

2 weeks ago I had the opportunity to take yet another workshop with Abbey Ryan at the
John F. Peto Studio Museum in Island Heights, NJ.
It is a lovely restored home/studio of the artist who was known for Tromp l'oeil (to fool the eye).
Peto's props where all over the home as well as a gallery upstairs which had an amazing Tromp l' oeil exhibit including 3 pieces of Abbey's.  One of the props that caught my eye was a ceramic beer bottle just like the one I had brought from home, so I knew I had to use it.
Thank you Vintage Stew for selling me that bottle!

The small unfinished painting in the middle is from the workshop.  Abbey helped me get the correct colors of the pear and there were supposed to be some figs on the right...those got scrubbed out.  SO  it was used as a study for a larger painting when returning home.  I used the same props from the workshop except added an old green book, and yes that is the same pear.

This is my alomost finished 12x16 version.  I think it needs a little tweeking on the symetry of the bottle and not sure what else yet, so going to let it sit a few more day's...  Thoughts and comments are welcome.

This finished painting is available framed $300 please contact Renee Brennan

Mr. Robot

6x8 oil $150 framed
"Mr. Robot" is the inspiration for painting a retro toy series,
I adopted him from a fun little store called
Vintage Stew in Deale, MD.

The top photo is him in progress at my good friend Barbara Moore's studio.
I had my Ipad,  a printed out version and the "live" model.
Live works best for accurate color.
What do you think?

"Sugar Bowl and a Cutie"

"Sugar Bowl and a Cutie"  6x6 oil
by Renee Brennan $150 framed

This painting I did in spirit of the Glass Challenge on
the Daily Paintworks website.
Having never attempted painting cut glass,
I found it kind of fun to do.
The reflections are fragmented, and I think it looks interesting.
What do you think?

Osprey at #1

"Osprey at #1"
24x24 Acrylic & Collage
$400

My little story behind it goes like this:
Last Fall I got a new puppy named Daisy.  Well Miss Daisy likes to chew on things.
While I was busy painting, she kept bringing sticks inside the house, via
her doggy door.  I had to keep taking them away, and before I knew it there was a
pile of sticks next to the easel.  As I started painting the nest I thought hmmm these sticks
might be interesting to create the nest ...after wrecking my fingers wiring them into the canvas and adding clouds made from husbands (old) Chesapeake Bay charts all was done.
Now you have the tale of my inspiration.   Thanks Miss Daisy!

Osprey Nest at #6

24 X 48 Acrylic on canvas
 $1000 Available

This piece was so much fun to paint.  I took a reference photo from our sailboat out on the West River on the Chesapeake Bay.  If you are not familiar with channel markers, there are these migrating birds called Osprey.  They come back to the Bay in the Springtime and build these huge nests....really they are about 3 - 4 feet wide!  Most of the markers have nests and sometimes you can see the newborns peeking their heads out.  Of course the parent's are very protective of the nests and when a boat passes by, the Osprey will circle out to distract onlookers from their nest.  Often while sitting on my back deck, you may hear a loud snap...and then see an Osprey with a large branch flying overhead....HEY I wonder if one of those branches I painted is from my tree!
